Stageweek 8

Hallo allemaal! 😊


Maandag had ik terug stage in de ‘surgical ward’. Dit keer wel met een andere groep studenten. Ik was samen met een andere studente verantwoordelijk voor een patiënt waarbij net een ileostomie was geplaatst. Het was een goede dag vandaag, er waren heel wat zorgen die moesten toegediend worden, dus we hadden veel kansen om deze te oefenen. Verder heb ik weer gewerkt aan m’n bachelorproef. 

Dinsdag al terug m’n 2de dag op de ‘surgical ward’. Ik kreeg dit keer een eigen patiënt toegewezen. In de voormiddag werd ze geopereerd, thyroidectomy, dus het wegnemen van haar schildklier. Tijdens de operatie zelf hielp ik nog bij de patiënt die ik gisteren mee verzorgde. Eens mijn patiënt terug was moest ik alles wat ik normaal op 1 shift moet doen, ineens in sneltempo doen. Parameters nemen, postoperatieve check up doen, medicatie toedienen en natuurlijk het dossier aanvullen (en dat is hier nogal een werk). Het is me goed gelukt moet ik zeggen! Ik heb zelfs een ballon gekregen van een tevreden patiëntje vandaag. 😊 Daarna weer bachelorproef uiteraard. 

Woensdag al weer de laatste dag op de ‘surgical ward’, de allerlaatste dit keer! Vandaag werkte ik verder met dezelfde patiënt als gisteren. Ze mocht al naar huis, dat vond ik wel wat snel. Ze deed het wel goed, maar toch, zo 1 dag na de operatie. Op het einde van deze shift heb ik meegedaan met een toets die de studenten hier af en toe krijgen en ik heb het niet slecht gedaan. 😉 ’S avonds, ra ra ra, terug bachelorproef.

Donderdag mocht ik dan naar pediatrie, hier had ik naar uitgekeken! Ik kreeg een baby toegewezen van 10 dagen oud met allerlei problemen. Onder andere een vergroot hart en een longontsteking. Ik mocht alles zelf doen, dus ik vond het een zalige shift! 😊 En daarna, tja, bachelorproef! Ik heb hem eindelijk ingediend, dus daar ben ik al vanaf! 😊 

Vrijdag m’n laatste dag op pediatrie en ook m’n laatste dag stage. Ik mocht hetzelfde baby’tje verzorgen als gisteren. ’s Avonds heb ik dan de Belgische geneeskunde studenten ontmoet die hier ook 3 maanden zullen verblijven. We zijn samen iets gaan eten in Lemon & Olives, een Grieks restaurant. 😊

Zaterdag ben ik samen met de andere Belgen op weekend vertrokken naar San Juan (La Union). We namen de bus van Baguio naar San Juan, checkten in in het little surfmaid resort en aten daar middageten. Daarna trokken we dan naar het strand voor een verfrissende duik in zee. ’s Avonds aten we pizza in een super gezellige bar, met uitzicht op zee. 😊 Mooie zonsondergang, heerlijk ontspannen, dat was wel nodig na afgelopen week! 😊

Zondag hebben we heerlijk uitgeslapen en dan op het gemakje ontbeten. Daarna zijn we naar San Fernando gegaan voor wat city tripping. Maar omdat het zo warm was, waren we al snel terug aan het strand te vinden! 😉 We hebben dan heel laat middag gegeten om daarna onze bagage op te pikken en de bus terug naar Baguio te nemen. Dit weekend was exact wat ik nodig had om m’n bachelorproef los te laten! 😊

Monday I had my duty in the surgical ward again. But this period I will be with another group of nursing students. I was responsible for a patient with a recent ileostomy (together with another nursing student). It was a good day, there were some skills we needed to do, so it was a good opportunity to exercise. After that I worked on my thesis again.

Tuesday my second day in the surgical ward. This time they give me my own patient. Before noon she had a thyroidectomy, so a removal of the thyroids. During this operation I helped other patients. Once my patient came out of the operation, I needed to do all the work we do normally in 8 hours, in only 3 hours. Taking vital signs, doing postoperative check-ups, giving medication and of course completing the chart (and that is quite a lot of work here). I have to say, it worked out really well! A patient even gave me a balloon because he liked my work as a nurse. 😊 After duty, time for my thesis again of course.

Wednesday, last day in the surgical ward today, like, really the last day at all! I took care of the same patient I took care of yesterday. She could go home today, which was really quickly. She was doing all right, but still, only one day after surgery? At the end of the shift, I participated in an exam the students needed tot take, my result wasn’t that bad. 😉  Tonight, thesis again. 

Thursday I started my duty in the pediatric ward, I have been looking forward to this! I was responsible for a 10 days old baby with several health problems. For example an enlarged heart and pneumonia. I was allowed to do everything myself, so I really liked this shift! 😊

Friday I worked my last day in the pediatric ward, it was also my last duty here in the Philippines. I toke care of the same baby I took care of yesterday. Tonight I finally met the Belgian medical students.They will stay here during 3 months, we went out for dinner at Lemon & Olives, a Greek restaurant. 😊 And after that, well thesis of course. I handed it finally in, so that’s done! 😊

Saturday I went to San Juan (La Union) for the weekend together with the Belgian medical students. We took a bus from Baguio to San Juan, we checked in at the little surmaid resort and ate lunch there. After that we went to the beach to refresh in the sea. For dinner we ate pizza in an awesome bar, with a nice view on the sea. 😊 Beautiful sunset, time to relax, I could use that after this week! 😊

Sunday we slept long and took breakfast at ease. After that we went to San Fernando for some city tripping. But because it was so hot, we went to the beach again as soon as possible! ;) We had lunch really late, got our luggage at the resort and took a bus back to Baguio. This weekend was exactly what I needed to let go the thoughts about my thesis! 😊
