Reis Retie - Baguio

Hallo allemaal! 😊

Ik ben er, eindelijk! Dit na een lange reis van Retie naar Schiphol naar Guangzhou (China) naar Manila (Filipijnen) naar Baguio! Het vliegtuig dat me van Schiphol naar Guangzhou bracht was netjes op tijd. Dit was de langste vlucht (12 uur), en toch heb ik amper kunnen slapen. Ik probeerde het wel, maar het lukte echt niet. Pech, op naar de volgende vlucht dan maar! Ik had 2 uur de tijd om over te stappen en dat was net genoeg, veel minder mocht het echt niet zijn. Gelukkig had ik wel nog even tijd om me snel wat op te frissen. Het vliegtuig dat me van Guangzhou naar Manila moest brengen was eveneens netjes op tijd. Ik moet het de chinezen nageven, organiseren kunnen ze goed 😉 (ik vloog met China Southern Airlines). En daar stond ik dan, zo’n 3 uur later, helemaal alleen op de luchthaven van Manila. Ik connecteerde met de gratis Wi-Fi en checkte m’n mailbox. Daar zag ik direct een mailtje van de mevrouw die me ging komen opwachten in Manila. Ik moest naar de ‘greetings area’ komen en bij de letter V gaan staan, daar zouden we elkaar dan vinden. Dat is hun manier daar om elkaar makkelijk terug te vinden, je moet dan gaan staan bij de 1^ste letter van je achternaam, simpel maar effectief. 😊 Deze mevrouw is de verantwoordelijke voor de Ladies Residence Hall, de studentenaccommodatie waar ik zal verblijven. Bij haar was er ook nog een meisje uit Mongolië waarvan de zus gelijk met mij landde.  Meg (het meisje) en Oun (haar zus) zouden mijn buurmeisjes zijn in de studentenaccommodatie. Meg is hier al van januari, dus wist perfect hoe we naar Baguio moesten reizen, handig! Samen namen we dus de bus van Manila naar Baguio (5 uur), eerst langs autostrade en vervolgens de bergen in. De rijstijl was, hoe zal ik het zeggen, apart. 😜 En daar kwamen we dan aan in het drukke Baguio (minder druk dan Manila, maar toch!). Ik werd opgewacht door Evelyn, zo’n beetje de moeder van de buitenlandse studenten, met vragen kan je altijd bij haar terecht. Ze heeft me eerst naar de kantine gebracht voor het avondeten en me daarna m’n kamer getoond. Het is een grote kamer, er staan ook 2 bedden in, maar blijkbaar is hij voor mij alleen. Ik ben na het eten nog rap in de douche gesprongen en daarna direct in bed gedoken.

Hey all! 😊

Finally, I did arrive! This after a long trip going from Retie to Schiphol to Guangzhou (China) to Manila (Philippines) to Baguio! The plane flying me from Schiphol to Guangzhou was right on time. This was the longest flight (12 hours), but I barely slept, I really tried, but it just didn’t work. Bad luck, so on to the next flight! I had 2 hours for my transfer, it was enough time, but it could not be any less. Luckily I had enough time to freshen myself up a bit. The plane flying me from Guangzhou to Manila was also right in time. I have to say, Chinese people are really good at organising things 😉 (I flew with China Southern Airlines). And so there I stood, 3 hours later, all on my own at the airport of Manila. I connected with the free Wi-Fi and checked my mailbox. There I saw I had mail from the woman who promised to wait for me at the airport. I needed to go to the greetings area and than to the ‘V’. This is their way to find each other easy in this crowded city. You have to look for the first letter of your last name, simple, but effective. 😊 This woman (Blesilda) is responsible for the Ladies Residence Hall, the student accommodation where I will be staying. With her, there was a girl from Mongolia, her sister landed at the airport the same time I did. Meg (the girl) and Oun (her sister) would become my neighbours in the student accommodation. Meg is already here from January, so she could guide us without any problems to Baguio. So we took the bus together from Manila to Baguio (5 hours), first we passed a lot of highways and then we went into the mountains. The style of driving was, how should I say it, unusual. 😜 And then, finally, there it was, the crowded Baguio (less than Manila though, but still!).  There was someone (Evelyn), waiting for me, she is like a mother for the exchange students, if you have questions, you can ask her. She first showed me the canteen where we consumed dinner and than she showed me my room. It is a very big room, there are even 2 beds, but apparently it is just for me.  After dinner I took a shower and after that I jumped in my bed as soon as I could.
